Myanmar (also known as Burma) is a country in South East Asia bordering Laos, Thailand and China. For many years Myanmar was cut off from the rest of the world, ruled as it was by a military junta. Today, with a new government in place and reforms being implemented, Myanmar has opened up to the rest of the world again. You can ship plenty of clothes and trekking equipment with Send My Bag to help make your trip to Myanmar run smoothly. You will be able to sail through the airport without having to queue at bag drop or luggage carousels. You can also use public transport without worrying about dragging luggage behind you in the heat. Send your bags ahead to your hotel so that they are there waiting for you when you arrive.

Our carrier service also allows those who are relocating to Myanmar or students moving there to study to bring with them everything they need to set up home in Myanmar. Or, students on a gap year can use Send My Bag to ship everything they need to last the entirety of their trip to Myanmar.

Ways of Shipping to Myanmar

There are various options available for shipping to Myanmar. Some options will be more suited to your needs than others. You can choose between several different options for international shipping to Myanmar. Here are some of them below:

Send Luggage to Myanmar

If you are going on a hiking trip to Myanmar, if you are planning to take in the many cultural sites, or if you are moving there to study or work, you can send your possessions to Myanmar in a suitcase with Send My Bag. This makes your journey much more pleasant since you won’t have to worry about your luggage. Instead Send My Bag will take care of it for you and can have it waiting for you at your accommodation. You can also bring many more items than you could if just checking a few bags into an airplane’s hold. To find out more about sending luggage to Myanmar, visit our ‘How it works’ page, or our ‘FAQs’.

send golf clubs to Myanmar

Myanmar is said to have numerous golf courses for you to discover, among which Pun Hlaing, Royal Mingalardon and Bagan have been rated highly. Why not choose a more unusual golfing holiday location this year and head to Myanmar. Send My Bag can ship your golf clubs to Myanmar, so no need to worry about transporting them yourself. You won’t have to carry your clubs through the airport or onto public transport and you will also avoid any embarrassing oversized baggage fees from your airline. Make sure you find out how best to prepare your golf clubs for transit by visiting Send My Bag's information page on how to send golf clubs.

Send your bike to Myanmar

Why not discover the unknown country of Myanmar by bike and really enjoy travelling off the tourist track. Although you may have to travel along a number of dusty tracks, you should feel safe among the friendly Burmese people. As there are few places to hire a bike, Send My Bag is a lifeline, allowing you to send your own bike to Myanmar. Ensure that you package up your bike well before sending it to Myanmar. Use appropriate packaging for your items and secure everything well.

Sending a parcel to Myanmar

Instead of a suitcase, you could send a parcel to Myanmar with Send My Bag. Friends and family could also use this option to send you a gift or care package to help make you feel at home. You or your friends should choose an appropriate box when sending a parcel to Myanmar and seal it up well so nothing gets damaged in transit. Also make sure you know about rules regarding brand new items (see below). Read more on our parcel shipping information page to find out what you are permitted to send with Send My Bag, and how to package your items.

As well as sending baggage, luggage and parcels to Myanmar, you could think about the following ideas for shipping items internationally, which are more suitable if you want to send large items like a footstool or sofa:

Air Freight to Myanmar

Air freight is one possibility for sending large items, such as a table or a chest of drawers, to Myanmar. It usually takes one to two days to send items by air freight, which is fast, but the service can be quite expensive. The amount you pay depends on the weight and size of your shipment. You will probably also have to get a customs agent to handle customs clearance for you. And, you need to work out how to get your items to and from the airport, which means that costs could quickly increase. If you send internationally by air freight to Myanmar your items will likely arrive at one of the major airports, such as Yangon or Mandalay International Airports.

Sea Freight and Container Shipping to Myanmar

Instead of air freight, you could try sea freight or container shipping to move your possessions to Myanmar. Sea freight usually means shipping items in large containers loaded onto cargo ships. This option can be cheaper than air freight but it takes much longer for your items to reach you. Note that you will still need to use the services of a customs agent and will need to sort out how to get your items to and from the ports. When using container shipping to Myanmar your items will most likely arrive by ship at one of the major sea ports, such as Yangon.

Shipping Goods to Myanmar

You need to find out about the current customs rules when shipping goods to Myanmar. You should be fully aware of any duty that needs to be paid and what items are permitted to be shipped to Myanmar, which items are restricted, and which are forbidden. It's the third time I use Sendmybag, excellent service.
The only thing I would like to tell you is that the other two times I used your service I did it using my Spanish DNI. This time you have made a change and the system didn' allow me to do it like that. I had to upload my passport, and when the box was in the Spanish custom I was required to send my DNI.
Anyway I want to thank you because considering that there has been an unexpected coup in Myanmar, and the box has arrived successfully ( I hope because my daughter is now uncommunicated and she hasn't confirmed to me the delivery). You have done a very good work.
I see in the tracking that the box is in Myanmar and I trust it has been delivered.
Thank you again.

Very easy until the very end
Booking, packing and tracking package was very easy. Once it arrived we had to pay a charge on delivery though. I understand we have pay import taxes but I would have liked to know in advance from DHL not the delivery person.

Important Myanmar Customs Information

Holiday baggage and other time sensitive packages should not be sent on this route.

The volume of shipments sent to this destination across the last 12 weeks has not been sufficient to meet our minimum number of on time shipments required for holiday baggage approval.

To clear personal effects and household goods into Myanmar, the shipper will need to provide us with a copy of their passport, a copy of their airline ticket, a copy of their work permit and a letter of employment (letter for returning citizens must include the position and duration of employment).

If the shipper is a returning resident, in addition to the letter of employment mentioned above, they will also need to provide a copy of their Myanmar NRC Card and copy of the airport entry stamp page from their passport.

The shipper’s and receiver’s name must be the same and appear in exactly the same way as it is printed on the supplied passport copy. The shipper must also be present in Myanmar for customs clearance. We are advised that customs clearance for foreigners and returning citizens is approximately 1 week.

All goods imported duty free by a foreigner must be exported upon future departure from Myanmar and only one air shipment is permitted duty free per shipper.

Customers are currently limited to a maximum declared value of £280 / $400USD / 400€ /$500 AUD for shipments entering Myanmar in order to avoid delays with customs clearance and additional duty and taxes being applied.  The declared value is for customs purposes only and does not affect the level of Send My Bag Complimentary Cover selected at the time of booking.  Further information is available on our FAQ page.

General Customs Information

Personal effects are usually assessed as used items which have been in the sender's possession for 6 months or more. If your bag is checked by customs and is found to contain brand new or commercial items your shipment may be assessed for customs duties and taxes. If you are sending Christmas gifts please check with the destination country so you are aware of potential customs duties, follow their advice and attach all necessary documentation.

In order to demonstrate your shipment is personal effects you will be required to complete a brief non generic packing list online, entries to be made in the format: "5 x Cotton T-Shirts, 2 x Jeans, 3 x Cotton Shirt" and so on rather than as "10 x Used Clothing".

When a bag is stopped by customs for any reason (missing documentation, prohibited contents, commercial contents or further information required) Send My Bag™ records how long customs hold it for. Our historical statistics for this route indicate that if the customs authority stops your bag they will on average take 5 days to process it and release it back to us for delivery.

Customs processes and allowances do vary by country and as such we advise all travellers take 5 minutes to check how their personal circumstances and what they are sending will be assessed under the prevailing customs regulations of the destination.

More information is available on our customs information page.
