The closest international airport to the University of Oxford is London Heathrow. Oxford can be easily reached from the airport via ‘The Airline’ bus service run by the Oxford Bus Company (1h 30 mins journey).

This company also runs a service from Gatwick Airport (2h 30 mins).

Oxford can be reached by train from various destinations across the UK, including London. Oxford City Centre is a short walk away from the railway station. Alternatively, there are coach services connecting Oxford to other major destinations in the UK.

‘The Airline’ and other coaches depart from Gloucester Green Coach and Bus Station in the city centre.

The majority of the Oxford colleges are within walking distance of the train and bus station. There is also a frequent local bus service across the city.

Both Cardiff and Bristol airports are close to the university. The Cardiff Airport Express bus offers transport from Cardiff Airport to Cardiff City Centre. The airport also has a nearby rail link to Cardiff Central.

Bristol Airport Express runs a bus service from Bristol Airport to Cardiff Bus Station.

Cardiff is also connected to major UK Destinations by coach or train.

To reach the university's two campuses, Cathay Park and Heath Park, you should change train at Cardiff Central and take the rail service to Cathays.

Cardiff Central Train Station is situated opposite Cardiff Bus Station and local buses can be taken to the university campuses.

If travelling to Cardiff by coach, you may find that your coach stops outside the University on Park Place. Alternatively, a local bus can be taken from the bus station.

The closest airport to Coventry University is Birmingham International, which is 20 minutes away from Coventry by bus or train.

Alternatively, you could fly into London and get a train to Coventry, which is on the main national rail network.

Several buses run from the station to the city centre: 8/8A/9/9A/85/585/X30.

The Pool Meadow stop is closest to the university.

National Express also offers connections between Coventry and other cities around the UK.

The Pool Meadow bus and coach station is only a five-minute walk away from the main reception of the University in the Alan Beery building.

Note that some Coventry bus services do not give change, so ensure you have plenty of cash in order to pay the exact amount.

Birmingham City Centre (New Street Station) can be reached by train from Birmingham International railway station, which is a short train ride away from the airport via the SkyRail, which is free of charge. The journey to the city centre takes only 10-15 minutes.

The Edgbaston Campus of the University of Birmingham can be reached via the cross-city rail line from New Street Station to University Station. The campus is then a 5-minute walk away

Or, the campus can be reached on the Number 61/X62/ 63 buses.

The Selly Oak Campus can be reached on the same bus routes, or on a local train service to Selly Oak Station. The campus is then a half-mile walk away.

Cambridge can easily be reached by train. There is a frequent service from London’s King’s Cross and London Liverpool Street.

The majority of Cambridge’s colleges are within walking distance of the city centre.

The University is just 10 minutes’ walk away from the main train station at Lime Street and from the National Express Coach Station.

Getting to The University of Manchester

Manchester Airport is one of the largest in the UK, with many routes being offered, both domestic and international.

You can reach the city centre from the airport via train or bus.

The University is situated on the Oxford Road and Sackville Street areas. These are both on the south side of Manchester City Centre. The Oxford Road and Sackville Street sites can be reached using a bus travelling from the airport.

National rail services operate through Manchester. The Sackville Street area of the university can be reached within 5 minutes-walk of Piccadilly station (the train from London arrives here) and this station has bus links to the Oxford Road site.

National coach services stop at the Chorlton Street Coach Station, which is a short walk from both university sites.

Getting to The University of Sheffield

The nearest airport to Sheffield is the Robin Hood Airport, which is 30 minutes away by road. This airport offers routes to the UK, Europe and the US. Larger airports are an hour’s journey away, at Manchester Leeds/ Bradford and Nottingham East Midlands.

An hourly shuttle bus links the airport to Doncaster railway station, which has links all over Britain, including Sheffield.

The Sheffield University site can be reached using local public transport. Buses stop at or close to the university, including the 51, 52 and 95 from the city centre and the 120 from the Sheffield Transport Interchange. Or you can take the Supertram to the campus from the city centre (blue route to Malin Bridge and yellow route to Middlewood stop at the university).

There are many coach routes to the Sheffield Transport Interchange and Meadowhill Interchange. Sheffield is also an integral part of the national rail network.

The closest airport to the University is Southampton International Airport, just a few minutes away from the campuses by bus.

The airport offers flights to UK airports and mainland Europe

You can catch the Unilink bus: U1 from the airport to the university campuses.

Alternatively you can fly to London Gatwick or Heathrow, which are 60 and 90 miles away from Southampton, respectively. You can catch a National Express bus from either of these airports to Southampton. Some buses from Heathrow stop at the University’s Highfield Interchange, and others go to Southampton Coach Station. The coach from Gatwick goes direct to the coach station.

Coaches also link Southampton to other major destinations in the UK and the city is situated on the national rail network. Trains tend to stop at either Southampton Airport Parkway or Southampton Central.

The Highfield Campus can be reached from either train stop via the Unilink bus, U.

The Avenue Campus is reached from Southampton Central on the Unilink bus, U2B.

The Boldrewood Campus is reached from either stop on Unilink bus, U1.

The Waterfront Campus is reached from Southampton Central on Unilink bus, U1.

The Hospital Campus is reached from Southampton Central on Unilink bus, U6H.

The University of Warwick is located 3 miles from Coventry City Centre and can be reached using local public transport.  The University has a number of campuses – Central Campus and two smaller campuses, Westwood and Gibbet Hill, which are all within walking distance of each other.

You will find the entrance to Central Campus and Gibbet Hill on Gibbet Hill Road, and the entrance to the Westwood campus is on Kirby Corner Road.

Coventry Rail Station is about 4 miles aware from the campuses. There are frequent local buses from the station to the campus. Travel Coventry services 12/ 12A or U1 depart from Warwick Road close to the station and stop at the Central Campus.

To travel from the main bus station (Pool Meadow), the National Express Coventry Number 12 service can be taken, which passes the Westwood campus en route to the Central Campus.

Newcastle International Airport is only 7 miles away from the city centre. A Metro service links the airport to Haymarket, the stop closest to the University, which is located in the city centre.

Buses also run from the airport to the University.

The main coach station is at St James Boulevard, 15 mins walk from the city centre and 18 mins from the University.

Newcastle can also be reached by train from other UK towns and cities. It takes only 10-15 minutes to walk from the train station to the University campus.

Newcastle Airport is the airport closest to Durham (around 30 minutes’ drive away). Durham Tees Valley is slightly further away (40 minutes’ drive). Both airports offer international routes.

If travelling to Newcastle Airport, you can take the train or metro into Durham city centre. If travelling to Durham Tees Valley Airport, you can avail of the free Sky Express bus that links to Darlington railway station, which has regular connections to Durham.

There are also rail links to Durham from most major UK cities.

To get from Durham train station to the Durham City campus, take the 56, 57 or 57A bus. Or, it will only take you around 22 minutes to walk there.

Queen’s Campus, Stockton

Durham Tees Valley Airport is only 8 miles away from Stockton. (Newcastle Airport is 50 minutes’ drive away). The best option is to take a taxi from Tees Valley Airport to the University campus (13 minutes’ drive).

Or, you can travel by train, going first to Darlington and then connecting to Thornaby Railway Station. Or, the Transpennine Express offers a direct service from Manchester, Leeds and York to Thornaby. The campus can be easily reached by foot from Thornaby Railway Station (approx. 11 minutes’ walk).

The University of Leeds

Leeds Bradford Airport has routes to/from Europe, the US, Australia, the Middle East, Asia and South Africa.

You can reach Leeds city centre from the airport by taking the Flying Tiger bus no. 757. The bus terminus is Leeds Coach and Bus Station but it also stops at Leeds Train Station.

You can also take a train or coach to Leeds from all major UK cities.

To get from Leeds Train Station to Leeds University Campus, you can either go by foot (20 minutes’ walk) or by bus. Take bus no. 1, which departs from Infirmary Street, and get off just outside the Parkinson Building. There is also a £1 Leeds City Bus, which stops at the lower end of the campus.

To get from the bus/ coach station to the campus, take bus nos. 6, 28 or 97 to the Parkinson Building.

The University is based at two campuses – one in Manchester and one in Crewe, Cheshire.

The closest airport to both is Manchester International Airport. You can reach Manchester from the airport by train, bus or Metrolink. You can also take the train to Crewe.

You can easily reach Manchester by train from all major UK cities. The campus is just a five-minute walk away from the Oxford Road Railway Station, and a bus-ride away from Piccadilly Railway Station (bus no. 147), or a 10-15 minute walk away. If you arrive at Victoria Railway Station, take the free metro shuttle bus no. 2 (green) to Chester Street, which is close to the Manchester campus.

The Manchester campus is in the city centre. You can avail of the city’s free hop-on/hop-off shuttle service, which covers the main city-centre areas. The campus is in the vicinity of Oxford Road, which is served well by bus routes, for example, nos. 41, 42, 43, 85, 111, 250 and 256, heading south. The closest Metrolink stop is St Peter’s Square (10 minutes’ walk from the campus).

Cheshire campus is a five-minute walk away from Crewe station. Turn right on leaving the station, cross the road and pass the petrol station, then cross Macon Way. Walk down Crewe Green Road, past the fire station and the Cheshire campus is on the left.
