1. High Quality of Life 

Your well-being and happiness in the country that you move to is very important. New Zealand ranked 2nd for physical and mental well-being, and 4th for quality of life and fulfilment in the 2019 HSBC Expat Explorer Survey. New Zealand also came 12th in a 2018 global liveability index, which ranked happiness factors in a range of different countries. The factors that New Zealand ranked highly for include its culture, environment, economic stability, and healthcare.  

2. Natural World

New Zealand is a country where there is always something to explore! From mountains, to national parks, to lakes, to coasts and beaches, volcanoes, rainforests, and wildlife. Spending time outdoors, whether it be taking part in activities or relaxing at the beach, is known to reduce levels of stress.

In a 2018 survey by Internations, 53% of expats agreed that it is easy to make local friends in New Zealand, and around 79% said that attitudes toward foreign residents was positive. 

5. Family-Friendly 

In the 2018 expat survey by Internations, 92% of parents were satisfied with the safety and well-being of their children in New Zealand. 81% were satisfied with their children’s education and 96% rated the availability of children’s leisure activities positively. New Zealand also ranked in the top 10 countries for children in the 2019 HSBC Expat Explorer Survey. 

6. Climate

The south of New Zealand (including Queenstown, Christchurch, and Marlborough) has a mostly temperate climate. The climate in the north (including Wellington and Auckland) is more sub-tropical. However, it doesn’t get as hot and humid in New Zealand as it does in Australia, but you still get to soak up the sunshine all year round.
